In The Emperor's Wake
Fill me in proper!
A right bastard.
Has a granddaughter he is training as an apothecary. Xiaoling Chang. Xiaoling is kept under careful watch and kept extremely busy in the shop. Lee knows the dangers that exist for a woman, especially a Chinese woman, out in the town and protects Xiaoling well, till he can find a good husband for her. Along with finding a suitable husband for his granddaughter, he is also interested in finding proper wives for his grandsons. Given the female Chinese population here in San Francisco, that would prove to be tricky.
Equally as important to Lee is the apothecary shop that he runs. He is one of the few Chinese practitioners here in Chinatown. That has earned him some serious clout in his community.
